Cruising from the West Coast

Updated: Jan 31, 2023

Traveling across the country to enjoy a cruise isn't always feasible, but thankfully you can sail from the West Coast. Most people don't consider that California has many ports where you can sail to Hawaii, Mexico, and along the California coast. My family chose to cruise during spring break, and we sailed Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas from the Port of Los Angeles. This port is easy to navigate, and parking was a breeze. Yes, the parking is outside but it is steps away from the ship. This four-night sailing had two stops, Catalina Island and Ensenada. Unfortunately, we couldn't stop in Catalina because the wind was blowing so hard that it was not safe to tender, so we had an extra sea day. Royal Caribbean has so much to offer guests that we were not sad about our extra sea day. We decided to try out the Escape Room, which was so much fun! We partnered up with another family and were relieved we solved it in time! We watched a movie in the theater and checked out the Bingo games.

Most of Royal Caribbean's staterooms hold four passengers, so we opted to get two staterooms. We put our kids in an inside cabin. We stayed in a balcony stateroom across the hall. If you have older kids, this is a great option for families. We also decided to try one of the specialty dining restaurants on this cruise. We went to Jamie's Italian for lunch and had an incredible meal. On this cruise, we got our kids the refreshment package. This package includes unlimited soda, Johnny Rocket's shakes, non-alcoholic beverages, and more. We felt this was worth it and would most likely do it again. Our stop in Ensenada was fun. We walked through the shops and found a local restaurant to have lunch. We love Royal Caribbean, and this was a great way to spend our spring break.
