We spent a few days in Amsterdam before our river cruise. We checked into the W Amsterdam in a great room with two double beds and large restroom. After we settled in, we took a walk along the quaint streets of the city exploring shops, admiring the waterways, and learning to watch out for bikes! We walked around Vondelpark and the Van Gogh Museum and enjoyed a delicious meal and van Puffelen. The next day we had a fantastic breakfast at our hotel before meeting our guide who was taking us on a tour. Our tour started at Oud Zaandijk where we saw our first of many windmills. We then walked through Zaanse Schans and watched a demonstration about how to make wooden shoes and went to a store where you could try all different kinds of cheese. Then we got to climb up a windmill. From here, we made our way to a dam and from there went to one of my favorite stops, Giethoorn Village. This adorable village has canals lined with the cutest houses. We rented a small boat and traversed these canals and made our way to a large lake. This city was absolutely beautiful! That night we had dinner at our hotel at Mr. Porter and this was an incredible meal. The next morning we had breakfast at the Pancake Bakery and visited the Anne Frank House. We also stopped at Van Stapele and bought the most delicious cookies I have ever eaten in my life. This is definitely a city that I would love to visit again!
